Joseph Vollmer
Joseph Vollmer est un designer automobile et le père des panzerkampfwagen. En effet, à la tête du Allegmeine-Kriegs-Department 7, Abteilung Verkehrswesen (département des véhicules motorisés, section 7) il dessina les plans de tous les chars produits ou envisagés lors de la 1re guerre mondiale par l'Empire allemand, comme le A7V (seul char opérationnel), le K-Wagen (jamais construits), LKI et LKII... Il est né Baden-Baden en 1871. Il sortit gradué de l'école de commerce municipale en 1886, puis deviendra apprenti mécanicien à la Maschinenfabrik Esslingen de la ville de Cannstatt. En 1894, il complète sa formation en suivant des études d'ingénieur au Technikum Mittweida de Sachsen. Il commence sa carrière civile à la division automobile de Bergmann à Gaggenau avec l'automobile "Orient Express". En 1887, Vollmer est engagé à la compagnie Kühlstein Wagenbau à Berlin-Charlottenburg. En 1901, il travaille pour AEG et devient l'année suivante directeur de leur filiale NAG. Vollmer sera responsable du design et de la production de tous les véhicules produits par AEG-NAG jusqu'en 1906 (y compris le premier camion du monde, le Durch 1903). Ensuite avec son ami Ernst Neunerg il créa la Deutsche Automobil-Construktionsgesellschaft (DAC). Durant la "Grande Guerre" il sera nommé capitaine avant de devenir le chef du programme de char allemand.
Joseph Vollmer is an automobile designer and the father of the panzerkampfwagen. Indeed, at the head of Allegmeine-Kriegs-Department 7, Abteilung Verkehrswesen (department of the motorized vehicles, section 7) it drew the plans of all the tanks produced or under consideration at the time of the 1st world war by the German Empire, like A7V (only operational tank), K-Wagen (ever built), LKI, LKII… He was born at Baden-Baden in 1871. It left graduated the municipal business school in 1886, then will become mechanic's apprentice in Maschinenfabrik Esslingen at the town of Cannstatt. In 1894, he supplements his formation while following studies of engineer in Technikum Mittweida at Sachsen. He begins his civil career at the automobile division of Bergmann at Gaggenau with "The Orient-Express" car. In 1887, Vollmer is engaged at the company Kühlstein Wagenbau at Berlin-Charlottenburg. In 1901, he works for AEG and becomes following year director of their subsidiary company NAG. Vollmer will be responsible for the design and the production of all the vehicles produced by AEG-NAG until 1906 (including the first truck of the world, Durch 1903). Then with his friend Ernst Neunerg he created Deutsche Automobil-l-Construktionsgesellschaft (DAC). During the " Great War" he will be promoted captain before becoming the chief of the German program of tank.

Dans les années vingt, il deviendra directeur de la Landsverk (Landskrona Nya Mekaniska Verkstads AB) en Suède dont l'Allemagne détenait beaucoup d'actions. Ensuite, il rejoindra Skoda en Tchécoslovaquie. Durant sa carrière Vollmer obtiendra environ 450 brevets de véhicules en Allemagne et à l'étranger. Pour son travail il sera récompensé du Bundesverdienstkreuz (croix fédérale du mérite). Joseph Vollmer décéda après un discours à l'usine Volkswagen de Brunswick, le 9 octobre 1955.
In the Twenties, he will become director of Landsverk (Landskrona Nya Mekaniska Verkstads AB) in Sweden of which Germany held much shares. Then, he will join Skoda in Czechoslovakia. During his career Vollmer will obtain approximately 450 patents of vehicles in Germany and foreign. For his work he will be rewarded for Bundesverdienstkreuz (federal cross of the merit). Joseph Vollmer died after a speech at the Volkswagen factory at Brunswick, on October 9, 1955.
