Fifteen examples were produced in 1918 and sent to France in November 1918 for field testing. Unlike the Ordnance Department, which had recommended its adoption because of its low cost, the soldiers of the Tank Corps were not very enthusiastic about the M1918, which they found too weak, even for a light tank. The army still ordered fifteen thousand examples from Ford, with the aim of using them as artillery tractors, this order being however canceled after the armistice. |
