Le premier régiment de canons d'assaut fu t constitué en mai 1943. Le SU-152 fut très favorablement accueilli par les équipages en raison de ses capacités de contrer efficacement les chars lourds allemands tels que le le Panther et le Tiger. Durant la bataille de Koursk, ce canon automoteur fut baptisé Zveroboy (tueur d'animaux, car les chars lourds allemands avaient des noms d'animaux).

The first regiment of assault guns was constituted in May 1943. The SU-152 was very favorably welcomed by the crews because of its capacities to oppose efficiently the German heavy tanks as Panther and Tiger. During the battle of Koursk, this self-propelled gun was baptized Zveroboy (killer of animals, because the German heavy tanks had names of animals).

Durant cette terrible bataille qui eut lieue début juillet 1943, les SU-152 de ce régiment détruisirent 12 Tigers et 7 Ferdinands. A cette époque il était constitué de 12 SU-152 mais plus tard durant l'hiver 1943-1944, l'effectif passa à 21 SU-152. Le SU-152 restait cependant avant tout un canon d'assaut destiné au support des unités blindés ou d'infanterie durant leurs assauts. Il était en plus grâce à ses munitions explosives un redoutable combattant de rue, pouvant détruire n'importe quel point fortifié. D'autres régiments furent constitués et à partir du printemps 1944, le SU-152 laissa peu à peu la place aux ISU-152 et ISU-122 basés sur le châssis des chars IS.

During this terrible battle that took place at the beginning of July 1943, the SU-152 of this regiment destroyed 12 Tigers and 7 Ferdinands. To this era it was constituted of 12 SU-152 but late during the winter 1943-1944, the strength passed to 21 SU-152. The SU-152 remained nevertheless before all an assault gun intend for the support of AFV or infantry units during their assaults. It was what's more thanks to its high explosive ammo a fearsome street fighter, being able to destroy any all strengthened point. Other regiments were constituted and from the spring 1944, the SU-152 left little by little the place to the ISU-152 and ISU-122 based on the chassis of the tanks IS.
