Land Kruizer (Land Cruisers)

En juin de 1942, les rêves mégalomaniaques des ingénieurs allemands atteignirent des sommets avec la proposition d'un bureau à charge des U-Boots d'un char de 1000 tonnes ! Adolf Hitler fut intéressé et mis Krupp sur le projet. Krupp proposa le P1000 ou Ratte (Rat) qui était un croiseur terrestre de 35m de long, 14m de large et 11m de haut ! Le P1000 devait utilisé 2 jeux de 3 chenilles de 1200mm (3600mm) semblables à ceux des excavateurs dans les mines. Pour propulser un tel vaisseau, on pensa à deux diesels de marine MAN V12Z32/44 de 24 cylindres développant chacun 8500ch ou huit diesels de marine Daimler-Benz MB501 à 20 cylindres développant chacun 2000ch. Ces groupes moteur devait permettre au P1000 d'atteindre tout de même les 40km/h. Le P1000 devait être armé de différentes armes telles que deux 280mm (mêmes armes que celles utilisés par les croiseurs Scharnhorst et Gneisenau), un canon 128mm, huit canons de 20mm Flak 38 ou encore deux 15mm Mauser MG 151/15.

In June of 1942, megalomaniac dreams of the German engineers reached peaks with the proposal of an office with load of the U-Boots of a tank of 1000 tons! Adolf Hitler was interested and put Krupp on the project. Krupp proposed P1000 or Ratte (Rat) which was a land cruiser of 35m length, 14m broad and 11m top! P1000 had used 2 sets of 3 tracks of 1200mm (3600mm) similar to those of the excavators in the mines. To propel such a vessel, one thought of two diesels of navy MAN V12Z32/44 of 24 cylinders developing each one 8500hp or eight diesels of marine Daimler-Benz MB501 to 20 cylinders developing each one 2000hp. These power plants was to make it possible P1000 to reach all the same the 40km/h. P1000 was to be armed with various weapons such as two 280mm (same weapons as those used by the cruisers Scharnhorst and Gneisenau), a gun 128mm, eight guns of 20mm Flak 38 or two 15mm Mauser MG 151/15.

Encore plus fort, en décembre 1942, Krupp dessina un nouveau modèle de 1500 tonnes, le P 1500 ! Ce croiseur terrestre devait être doté d'un blindage frontal de 250mm et être armé du mortier de 800mm "Dora" ou deux pièces d'artillerie de 150mm. Le P1500 devait être propulsé par 4 diesels de sous-marins mais au début 1943, Albert Speer mis fin aux deux projets. Cependant une tourelle de P1000 fut finalisé et servit comme arme de défense côtière (Batterie Oerlander) près de Trondheim, Norvège.

This land cruiser was to be equipped with a frontal shielding of 250mm and to be armed with the mortar of 800mm " Dora" or two pieces of artillery of 150mm. P1500 was to be propelled by 4 diesels of submarines but at at the beginning of 1943, Albert Speer cancelled the two projects. However a turret of P1000 was finalized and was useful as coastal defense weapon (Oerlander Battery) close to Trondheim, Norway.
