10.5 cm K18 auf Panzer-Selbstfahrlafette IVa Dicker Max (Tank Destroyer)

En septembre 1939, le haut commandement commanda à Krupp la réalisation d'un panzerjager lourd armé du canon de 105 ou de 128 mm capable de détruire n'importe quel char ennemi et position fortifiée. Au cours de la première moitié de 1941, Krupp-Gruson produisit deux prototypes qui furent , le 31 mars 1941, présenté à Adolf Hitler. Il ordonna que ce modèle soit mis en production dès le printemps 1942, mais d'autres véhicules plus modernes viendront le supplanter et annuler la production.

In September 1939, the high command ordered to Krupp the realization of a heavy panzerjager armed with the gun of 105 or 128 mm able to destroy any enemy tank and fortified position. During first half of 1941, Krupp-Gruson produced two prototypes which were, 31 March 1941, presented at Adolf Hitler. It ordered that this model is put in production as of spring 1942, but other more modern vehicles will come to supplant it and cancel the production.

Cet engin fut designé 10.5 cm K18 auf Panzer Selbstfahrlafette IVa et baptisé Dicker Max. Il était armé du 105mm K 18 L/52 de Krupp avec champ de tir horizontal limité (8 degrés à gauche comme à droite) monté dans une superstructure arrière sur châssis modifié de Panzer IV Ausf A. Le canon était doté d'un frein de bouche à double-déflecteur. Cette arme pouvait pénétrer 111 mm de blindage sous un angle vertical de 30 degrés à 2000 mètres. Ce Panzerjäger était légèrement blindé (10-50 mm), et la superstructure était ouverte. Pour compléter l'armement, une mitrailleuse MG34 de 7.92mm MG34 était embarquée dans le poste de combat. Le moteur était le classique 12 cylindres (essence) Maybach HL 120 TRM développant 300 ch et assurant sur route une vitesse maximum de 40km/h. Les prototypes (deux) furent versés premièrement dans le Panzerjager Abteilung 521 en prévision de l'invasion du rocher de Gibraltar. Au cours des premiers mois de l'opération Barbarossa en Russie, ils étaient assignés à la 3e Pz-Division. L'un des deux fut capturé par les Russes et le second retourna à l'usine en octobre 1941. Les deux prototypes furent très efficaces cependant, contre tous les modèles mis au combat par les Russes à cette époque. Malgré celà, les décideurs allemands ne jugèrent jamais bon de le faire entrer en production.

This machine was designed 10.5 cm K18 auf Panzer Selbstfahrlafette IVa and was baptized Dicker Max. It was armed with the 105mm K 18 L/52 de Krupp with limited horizontal field of fire (8 degrees on the left as on the right) assembled in a back superstructure on modified chassis of Panzer IV Ausf A. The gun was equipped with a muzzle brake with double-deflector. This weapon could penetrate 111 mm of shielding under a vertical angle of 30 degrees to 2000 meters. This Panzerjäger was slightly armoured (10-50 mm), and the superstructure was open. To supplement the armament, a machine-gun MG34 of 7.92mm MG34 was embarked in the station of combat. The engine was the standard 12 cylinders (gasoline) Maybach HL 120 TRM developing 300 hp and ensuring on road a maximum speed of 40km/h. The prototypes (two) were firstly versed in Panzerjager Abteilung 521 in preparation for the invasion of the Rock of Gibraltar. During first months of the Barbarossa operation in Russia, they were assigned with the 3rd Pz-Division. One of both was captured by the Russians and the second turned over to the factory in October 1941. The two prototypes were very effective however, counters all the models put at the combat by the Russians at that time. In spite of that, the German decision makers never judged good to start production.
