Project studied especially for the operational requirements of the Eastern front to which the initial LWS does not really meet. However, Skoda's LWS never went beyond the stage of a 1/10th wooden model because of the destruction of the Bilzen factory by Allied bombers in May 1945. It was to be powered by a main engine of 450 HP, initiated by an auxiliary engine of 50 HP. The vehicle had to be able to move at 25 km/h on land, and in water at 8 km/h by means of two 70 cm propellers. Buoyancy was provided by two removable side boxes. It was operated by a crew of 4 men and must have weighed around 27 tons. Its open-top compartment had to be able to accommodate a load of 30 tons. The forward dozer blade was to be used to clear beach obstacles and barbed wire. (Artist's view !) |
