Motomitragliatrice
blindata d’assaulto (MIAS). It is a mobile (self-propelled) shield operated by a single man. The driver was not seated and steered the vehicle while walking ! In combat, the gunner was either standing (but leaning) or crouching. The roof could be erected to protect the gunner. The MIAS version was armed with two 6.5 mm Fraschini machine guns (1000 rounds of ammunition). |
We
really realize the smallness of the vehicle (here the MIAS version) compared
to a human in these photos. |

Moto-mortaio blindato
d’assaulto (MORAS). This version was armed with a 45mm Brixia Mortar (-10 degrees to +72 degrees in elevation). It carried up to fifty grenades of 0.5 kg. Both vehicles were propelled by a 250cc Frera petrol engine producing 5 hp, and capable to reach 5 km/h forwards and 2.2 km/h in reverse. |
Neither vehicle
of 1935 went past the prototype stage because totally unsuitable for modern
warfare. |
