PZL P.46/II
second prototype of light bomber, attack and reconnaissance aircraft
developed to replace the P.23/P.43 series. The prototype was flown to
Romania and interned. In great secrecy Polish personnel managed to prepare
the machine for one more important flight. Evading the Romanians in
the last days of September, the P.46 managed to fly into Warsaw, even
though the airfield was under German attack, and deliver final orders,
including the order to establish the Polish Home Army secret force,
to the besieged capital and then fly out again to England. But it landed
at Lithuania due to low of fuel. The airplane was crew was interned.
According some sources the airplane in 1940 was captured by Soviet troops. |
