Variants |
The first series were only armed with 2
× 0.50 inch Breda-SAFAT guns in the nose. Starting from Series
VI armament was increased with 2 × 0.303 inch (7.7 mm) Breda-SAFAT
guns in the wings. Starting from Series XI underwing hardpoints were
added to carry either bombs or drop tanks. |
Conversion from the MC.202 Folgore for use in the North
African Theatre (AS = Africa Settentroniale, or North Africa). Amongst
others it had a dust filter fitted over the carburetor air inlet.
|
Conversion from the MC.202 Folgore for use as a fighter-bomber
(CB = Caccia Bombardiere, or Fighter-Bomber). It was fitted with underwing
hardpoints for light bombs or drop tanks. |
Likely standing for Esperimento Cannoni, it was another
link between Veltro and Folgore. One aircraft (Serie III, s/n MM 91974)
was fitted with a pair of gondola-mounted 20 mm cannon with 200 rounds
each. There was no further production. |
Equipped with cameras for photo-reconnaissance missions
(R – Ricognizione, Reconnaissance), very few produced. |
Prototype with a revised radiator, under the nose, similar
to the P-40. |
At least one such aircraft was modified to server as
a "drone director" (coupled with S.79s), and it was planned
to use Folgores also as 'Mistel', with an AR.4 "radiobomba"
(a form of remote-control kamikaze bomber). |
Macchi MC.202 with DB 605 were initially known as MC.202
bis; later as the C.205 Veltro. |
