Due to the shortage of M4A3E8 (76) after the war due to the scrappings of numerous specimens, the US Army rearmed many old Sherman (75) with the gun of 76 mm simply assembled on the the sandard M34A1 combination gun mount.
This gave birth to M4A3E4 (76) Sherman.
