T-26 Light Tank

Le T-26 fut utilisé au combat bien avant le Grande Guerre Patriotique contre les Finlandais et les Polonais (conflits considérés comme faisant partie de la 2e Guerre mondiale). En juillet 1938, le T-26 fut utilisé contre les Japonais au lac Hasan au nombre de 257 unités (avec 81 chars BT et 13 SU-5). Au cours de cette bataille 9 T-26 furent détruits et 76 autres furent endommagés et 8 chars BT furent perdus. 39 chars furent réparés et 40 furent renvoyés à l' usine. En fait beaucoup de char connurent des difficultés techniques et des pannes au niveau de la boîte de vitesse et des embrayages à friction.

T-26 was used to the combat well before the Great Patriotic War against the Finns and the Poles (conflicts considered as forming part of the 2nd World war). In July 1938, T-26 was used against the Japanese at the lake Hasan with a total of 257 units (with 81 tanks BT and 13 SU-5). During this battle 9 T-26 were destroyed and 76 others were damaged and 8 tanks BT were lost. 39 tanks were repaired and 40 were returned to the factory. In fact much of tank knew technical difficulties and breakdowns on the level of the gear box and friction clutchs.

En août 1939, les Soviétiques possédaient 8500 chars T-26 et au début de la Grande Guerre Patriotique il était le char le plus commun des forces armées russes. Ce char fut conçu comme char d' infanterie destiné à servir d' appui feu direct à cette dernière lors d' un assaut. Chaque division d' infanterie possédait une compagnie de ce char.

In August 1939, the Soviets had 8500 tanks T-26 and at the beginning of the Great Patriotic War it was the most common tank of the Russian armed forces. This tank was designed like tank of infantry intended to serve of direct support fire with the latter at the time of an attack. Each division of infantry had a company of this tank.

La puissance de feu des derniers modèles aurait dû leur permettre d' affronter mieux les panzers, mais dispersés et désorganisés ils ne purent qu' opposer une faible résistance aux concentrations de chars et d' armes anti-chars allemandes. Les Allemands les débordèrent facilement et en capturèrent beaucoup et les utilisèrent contre les partisans ou les transformèrent en chasseurs de chars armés du canon d' origine française de 75 mm Pak 97/38.

The fire power of the last models should have allowed them to face better the panzers, but dispersed and disorganized they could to oppose just a low resistance to the German of tanks and anti-tank weapons concentrations. The Germans overflowed them easily and captured of it much and used them against the partisans or transformed them into hunters of tanks armed with the French (original) gun of 75 mm Pak 97/38.

Le T-26 fut déclassé du service actif vers la moitié de 1942, mais resta affecté à des missions secondaires le long de la frontière extrême-orientale. Le T-26 fut cependant une excellent char pour son époque, très bien adapté au besoin soviétique, simple et robuste. Il était bien armé pour l' époque et convenablement utilisé il aurait pu s' opposer efficacement aux panzers allemands bien que dès 1941, il était déjà bien inférieur aux dernières réalisations soviétiques au niveau puissance de feu et blindage.

T-26 was displaced of active service towards mid 1942, but remained affected with secondary missions along the Far-Eastern border. T-26 was however an excellent tank for its time, adapted very well to the Soviet need, simple and robust. It was well armed for its time and suitably used it could to oppose effectively to the German panzers although since 1941, it was already quite lower than the last Soviet achievements than the level fire power and shielding.
