Le Mark III (avec le Mark IV) combattit tout d'abord sur le front français avec la 1er Division blindée, puis ensuite en Afrique du Nord.

Mark III (with Mark IV) fought first of all on the French front with the 1st Armoured Division, then in North Africa.

Après avoir effectuer de vastes mouvements de couverture des flancs britanniques face aux Italiens, les Mark III furent opposés aux Allemands tout au long de 1941. Ils subirent un certain nombre de pannes mais exploitaient pleinement leur vitesse supérieure à celle des meilleurs chars de l'Axe. Cependant en raison de son faible blindage, le Mark III était vulnérable aux armes antichars allemandes. L'apparition de panzers encore mieux armés et protégés (Panzers IV F2) fit définitivement pencher la balance en faveur de la Panzerwaffe. Le Mark III était encore en service au moment de l'opération Crusader en novembre 1941, qui fut sa dernière grande bataille. En 1942, il avait disparu du théâtre nord-africain.

After having realized vast movements of cover of the British sides against the Italians, Mark III were opposed to the Germans throughout 1941. They underwent a certain number of breakdowns but fully exploited their speed higher than that of the best tanks of the Axis. However because of its weak shielding, Mark III was vulnerable to the German anti-tank weapons. It could be opposed effectively to Panzer III Ausf.G but however the appearance of panzers still better armed and protected (Panzers IV F2) definitively made lean the balance in favour of Panzerwaffe. Mark III was still in service at the time of the Crusader operation in November 1941, which was its last great battle. In 1942, it had disappeared from the North-African theatre.
