Variants
Version armed with a 37 mm NS-37 gun. Its NS-37 gun is powered by 30 rounds and replaces the ShVAK. Cockpit 40 cm back to compensate for the heaviness of the nose. It served successfully against tanks, despite the constraints of gun recoil and lack of ammunition.
Yak-9D equipped with an NS-37 cannon and 4 FAB-50 bombs of 50 kg.
Version armed with a NS-45 gun. Yak-9T armed with an NS-45 gun with 29 rounds. Firing this gun at a speed below 350 km/h caused loss of control. It was little used.
Version which can be either armed with a 20 mm ShVAK, 23 mm VYa or 45 mm NS-45 gun. It was not produced in series because the difference between the 20 and 23 mm guns was minor and the 45 mm gun unreliable.
