Variants |
The Yak-9U was originally a Yak-9T
equipped with a Klimov VK-105PF2 engine and benefiting from aerodynamic
advances from the Yak-3. It had a 23 mm VYa cannon (60 rounds) and
two UBS 12.7 mm machine guns (170 rounds). This VYa cannon did not
give satisfaction.
The final Yak-9U was powered by a 1650 hp Klimov VK-107A and armed
with a ShVAK cannon with 120 rounds. The structure was also reinforced.
It was tested in 1943 and proved to be incomparable. Its speed,
700 km/h at altitude, made it the fastest hunter in the world at
the time. |
Yak-9U armed with one NS-37 cannon (30 rounds) and two
B-20 cannons (120 rounds). The production planes carried instead an
NS-23. |
Two-seater training version. Its armament was reduced
to a B-20 and 100 rounds. It was not produced in series because of
the arrival of jets. |
Two-seater version of the Yak-9M and T, equipped with
a Klimov VK-105PF2 engine and a ShVAK cannon with 90 rounds. |
