The T26 added upgraded armor to the mix, with a new 102 mm thick glacis and reinforced hull. Their overall weight rose to 36 tonnes, up into the category of “heavy tanks”. Performance decreased, and triggered reliability and maintenance issues, as their engine and transmission were not designed to cope with the additional stress.
